Synphony Chooses Barefoot to Bring Stories to Life for Little Ones! |
Being originally from Ohio, I was thrilled to hear " that three Barefoot titles, Hidden Hippo, Elusive Moose, and I Dreamt I Was a Dinosaur, have been chosen by the wonderful Canton, Ohio Symphony for a series of young children's concerts being given this winter. Launched in 2010, the series known as 'SymphonyLand', introduces young children to the instruments of the orchestra one trio at a time. Last year, the debut year, the Bear series was selected by the Symphony. Clearly, Ohio has some influential Barefoot lovers! A 'SymphonyLand' journey begins with performances by the string trio, then the woodwind trio followed by the brass trio. The series is complete with a performance by the entire orchestra at the Kinder Concert. Built around a children's storybook, each program incorporates Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and/or Math concepts while engaging young audience members with the beautiful sounds of live music. "We are so excited to be offering these new programs," says Lisa Boyer, Director of Education for the Canton Symphony. "These books are exquisitely illustrated and our musicians do a fantastic job engaging the children with their fine talents." If you're in the Canton, Ohio area, or know someone who is, tickets can be purchased online at www.cantonsymphony.org or by calling the Canton Symphony box office at 330-452-2094. Happy Thesaurus Day!
Today is the birthday of Peter Roget, the author of Roget's Thesaurus. The thesaurus is a wonderful resource to help find synonyms of words. No, not cinnamon as school kids seem to delight in saying whenever the subject of synonyms is brought up. But maybe synonyms actually do have something in common with this spice. Synonyms can "spice" up your writing by using interesting words. But what does a thesaurus, which literally means treasure store have in common with a Barefoot Book? If you are fan of Thesaurus Rex you will know that our Barefoot Book "follows this mischievous dinosaur as he frolics, rollicks, frisks, and romps. Each colorful page introduces simple synonyms and a fun-filled way to build vocabulary and word recognition."
For readers ages 3 to 7 years. Written by Laya Steinberg and illustrated by Debbie Harter. Our Thesaurus Rex definitely has a way with words! Available in paperback for $6.99 or hardcover for $15.99 So celebrate Thesaurus Day and spice up the life of your favorite child with our favorite wordy dino. (click on photo to shop)

" Barefoot is the Best!"
Barefoot Books recently posted on Facebook about people questioning how Barefoot Books chose their name. Most people felt if was because of when you are barefoot you are "living directly in touch with the Earth" Tessa Strickland, co founder of Barefoot Books, indicates the simplicity and naturalness the image of a barefoot child brings. "The image of the barefoot child speaks to anyone, anywhere in the world. There is a freedom and earthiness in going barefoot. Our Barefoot Books truly value what "Living Barefoot" is all about. Our books celebrate creativity with our well written stories and gorgeous artwork. A recent article in The Guardian writes about the physical importance of a child going barefoot. Here's a excerpt:
Clarks, which produces Crawlers, makes the following declaration on its website: 'There's nothing better for young feet than walking barefoot, whenever it's safe. It helps muscles develop, allows the skin to breathe and feeling the ground beneath their feet will help them learn to walk.' The title of this statement? 'Barefoot is best.' To read the entire article go to:http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/aug/09/barefoot-best-for-children In many ways, I too, believe Barefoot is definitely the BEST!
